LAKHIMPUR, April 23: The activists of the North Lakhimpur regional unit of Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti (MASS) and the CD Road Regional Committee of All Assam Moriya Students’ Union staged a two-hour long road blockade at CD road on Monday in association with the local people. The organizations demanded the district administration to repair the CD Road, Station Road, Milan Nagar Road, North Lakhimpur Police Station Road and North Lakhimpur Hindu Gaon Road. They further demanded that the street light of the town should be made functional.
Significantly, the district administration showed comprehensive negligence to the protest as no representative of the district administration arrived at the spot during the protest which aggrieved the protesters. Later, police arrested at least 40 protesters, including district chairman of MASS, Chinu Saikia, and secretary Raju Singha, and took them to the North Lakhimpur Police Station. However, they were released in the evening. They organizations submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of the district.
