Bongaigaon: “This government does not understand any other language other than agitation. Hence all labour class people are uniting now for their rights,” said Rakhal Das Gupta, president of All India Railwaymen’s Federation and general secretary of N F Railway Mazdoor Union on Monday.

He said this after the meeting of Joint Council of Action, the united platform of all trade unions held in Delhi. In the meeting it was decided that all trade unions would observe September 19 as Protest Day.

“We had set a deadline of August 18 for the government to fulfil our demands like scraping National Pension Scheme and increasing minimum basic salary of employees from Rs 18,000 to Rs 26,000. But the government did nothing. Hence we have decided to start our strike again. We appeal to all people to cooperate with us to make this protest day successful,” Das Gupta said.
