Protests Against Proposed Amendments In Power Sector

Joysagar: The Assam Power Production Company Limited, Lakwa Maibela sector Employees’ Union, staged a 48-hour strike against the proposed Union Electricity Amendments, 2018 on January 8 and January 9. The employees’ union sharply opposed the proposal and said that the move would affect the employees and the power sector would slowly get privatized.

Meanwhile, the Sivasagar District Left Front Joint Committee, Sivasagar CPI (M) and the Sivasagar Motor Shramik Union jointly observed two-day strike against the anti-labour moves of the Central Government. The protesters also slammed the government for favouring the capitalists while the labour class was struggling for their livelihood. The Sivasagar Sadar, Gargaon Power Project, Namrup Power Project and the Amguri Power Project Employees’ Union also protested against the Central Government’s latest amendment proposal on the power sector.
