Protests continue at Dispur

GUWAHATI, Feb 6: The All BTC Minority Students’ Union (ABMSU) today staged a sit-in stir at Dispur Last Gate here in protest against the alleged ‘commul politics’ unleashed by certain forces in the State. ABMSU president Lafiqul Islam Ahmed said that certain forces are trying to create instability in the state by unleashing ‘commul politics’ for their persol gains.

“We want the Government taking steps against these forces,” Ahmed said.

He opposed harassment of the genuine Indian citizen in the me of doubtful voter.

Ahmed said that every illegal migrant who entered India after March 25, 1971 should be expelled from Assam irrespective of their religion.

The ABMSU president sought rehabilitation of the erosion-hit people of the State and demanded immediate halt of the eviction drive launched by the government targeting a ‘particular community’.   

The ABMSU submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal in this regard. On the other hand, the All Assam Bengali Youth Students’ Federation (AABYSF) staged a protest seeking immediate end of the alleged harassment and atrocities on Bengali Hindus in the me of protecting domint linguistic tiolism.

“We demanded the government to desist from depriving, harassing Indian citizens belonging to Bengali Hindus from their constitutiol rights of getting various governmental licenses, permits, employment cards, documents, certificates and beneficiary assistance associated with various welfare programmes etc and from hidden conspiracy of making them ‘stateless citizen’,” said AABYSF president Dipak Dey.

Dey further said that the government must also ensure the removal of the ‘D’ or doubtful voters tag of many Bengali Hindus who have been deprived of their voting rights in elections held during the last two decades.

Meanwhile, the All Tiwa Students’ Union (ATSU) led by its president Dwipen Mosrong staged a dhar today for introducing Tiwa as elective subject from class III in the Tiwa domited primary schools. The ATSU also demanded appointment of 200 Tiwa language teachers in primary schools besides reprint of the textbook of Tiwa language. They also submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal in this regard.

The Anusuchit Jati Adhikar Mancha, Asom staged protest demanding land for landless people belonging to scheduled caste community and steps fopr preservation of the traditiol livelihood and industry.

 The All Assam Homeopathic Medical College Students’ Union in collaboration with All Assam Homeopathic Junior Doctors’ Union and Homeopathic Medical Association of India (HOMAI), Assam unit also staged a dhar at Dispur Late Gate against the ‘indifferent attitude’ of the Assam government to the homeopathic treatment.  The All Assam Homeopathic Medical College Students’ Union general secretary Mostafa Ali said that the government has not maintained regularity in the appointment of homeopathic doctors during the last few years in the State. All Assam Homeopathic Junior Doctors’ Union general secretary Mahbubul Bari said that due to lack of post graduate course in the homeopathic colleges of the State, students have to go outside the State.
