Protests galore against lynching of youths

A Correspondent

Dibrugarh, June 11: Along with other parts of Assam, protests broke out in response to the merciless lynching of two Assamese youths by a mob in the Panjuri Kachari village of Karbi Anglong. The barbaric act, which is believed to have been triggered by a fake Whatsapp rumour on child lifters, has been condemned tooth and nail here. Several groups, regardless of faith, came out and gathered around Thana Charali on June 10 and lit candles as a sign of seeking peace for the departed souls. Many of the protesters also demanded justice for the hapless victims, and at the same time, cried slogans against the Police department which supposedly failed to avert the hair-raising and extremely ruthless turn of events.

In another instance, Naba Jagaran, a social organization in association with MDK Girls’ College, DHSK Commerce College and DHSK College, held a candle march on Monday as a condolence for the souls of Abhijeet Nath and Nilotpal Das. The organizers also made an attempt to make people aware of the dangerous consequences of being a victim of superstitions.
