Public Accounts Committee (PAC) asks PWD to review its functioning

SHILLONG, July 16: The Public Accounts Committee of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on Monday summoned the Special Purpose Vehicle Society (SPVS) for its slow process in implementing the various developmental schemes.

The PAC has also summoned the PWD department to review on the various works implemented by the department.

Speaking to reporters, after the meeting PAC chairman Charles Pyngrope, said the SPVS since the year 2010-11 till 2018-19 it’s about Rs. 167 crore and because this money was not utilized an additional of around Rs. 34 crore was accumulated through interest from financial institutions.

He said the PAC felt that there is a slight delay in implementing the scheme which would benefit the area and as of today they have an unspent balance of Rs. 134 crore. He said that the SPV has many individual schemes which should have been implemented and the first instalment of the scheme was released 3 years back however till date the second instalment is yet to be released.

When asked, he informed that concerning the PWD department the PAC has summoned the department to review functioning of the department and how the scheme were implemented and what are the short comings and want measures can be taken to improve the system to benefit the public.
