JORHAT: Pratap Bordoloi, Assistant Engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHE), Jorhat, flagged off the Swachhta Rath in Jorhat on Sunday, as part of the Swachh Survekshan Grameen, 2018-a rural cleanliness programme under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The in-charge of the programme, Pratap Bordoloi said that people’s response was good and women and youths were coming out in large numbers. “Awareness must be created, especially among rural people, about the importance of cleanliness and how to work together towards making every nook and corner a better place to live,” he said.
There was special thrust on attracting people with magic shows, by riding motorcycles blindfolded and by staging street plays. “The response of people in the tea gardens and border belts has been encouraging since day one,” said Pratap Bordoloi.
