Public Is Voting Against Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB): Harish Rawat

GUWAHATI: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) In-charge Harish Rawat commented that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is responsible for encouraging illegal immigration due to the introduction of the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 (CAB). The cause has ensured a Congress party win, in all the five constituencies of Mangaldoi, Autonomous District Diphu, Karimganj, Silchar and Nagaon, in the second phase poll.

Addressing a press communiqué at Rajib Bhawan on Thursday, Harish Rawat said, “The people are voting against CAB in particular. Defeat for BJP and AGP spells victory of Assam Accord, victory of Assamese culture, Assamese people and identity of the indigenous. The BJP leaders have made their motives crystal clear that they are determined to introduce and pass CAB. Passing the Bill is destruction of the Assam Accord and if the Congress party comes into power, CAB will be dissolved once and for all.”

Harish Rawat claimed that the result of the second phase poll will meet expectations for the Congress party as the people are voting against BJP. “In Silchar after Priyanka Gandhi’s visit, the situation has completely turned in favor of the party. Mangaldoi Congress candidate Bhubenaswar Kalita is the champion of Assam owing to his role in opposing CAB at the Parliament.” He stated that the Congress party did not forge any alliance in the districts of Kokrajhar, Barpeta and Dhubri, while BJP along with alliance partner AGP is only contesting with money power and for the greed of a seat. “The horrendous thundersqaull in the state a few days back, wreaked a whole lot of destruction while the government remained tight-lipped on the situation and did nothing to provide support”, Rawat alleged.
