Public Meet Held To Discuss Rejection Of AICTE Recognition To Golaghat Engineering College

GOLAGHAT: In view of the future of the students of Golaghat Engineering College, the Golaghat AASU called a public meet on Saturday at its office campus to discuss the All India Council for Technical Education’s (AICTE) rejection of the recognition plea for Golaghat Engineering College (GEC). The meeting was presided over by the president of Golaghat AASU, Niranjan Sonowal and aims and purposes were elaborated by secretary Prince Doley.

The public meet strongly criticized the role of the Assam Government as well as the education department led by minister Siddartha Bhattacharya. Taking part in the public meeting, AASU central committee assistant general secretary Manuwar Hussain said the Assam Government was playing with the future of students of the college. He further alleged that despite taking any initiative for recognition of the college, the government secretly planning to transfer the students to other engineering colleges.

AASU central committee chief organizing secretary Raju Phukan said that after AICTE rejected the recognition plea for GEC, at least 92 students of the college were facing an uncertain future and their family members were worried. Due to negligence of the government, AICTE rejected the plea of recognition of GEC. He said that AASU would never tolerate this type of negligence by the government. They would come out to the streets to protest against the government with the support of public.

Senior journalist Dwipen Dutta also slammed the government for its lackadaisical attitude towards students and GEC. He said that the public should compel the government to take steps for recognition of GEC.

The public meet decided to launch a massive democratic protest against the government in Golaghat very soon. In the meeting, various senior citizens and delegates of organizations like AJYCP, AATTSA and Tai Ahom Students’ Union took part.
