PVM to contest in elections if rights of indigenous are not protected

STAFF REPORTER

Guwahati: The Prabajan Virodhi Manch (PVM), after their disappointment at the moves of the BJP led government, asserted that if the need arises, they would contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The Convenor of the Manch, Upamanyu Hazarika in a press meet stated, “For more than six years, we have been fighting for the cause of the protection and identity of the indigenous people, we are now making our entry into electoral politics in the ensuing Lok Sabha Elections. It took the AGP 29 years to make themselves irrelevant and it has taken the BJP only 2 ½ years to make themselves irrelevant for the indigenous as both of them have pushed the indigenous irretrievably on the path of becoming a minority.” The Manch has requested the government once again to enact a legislation protection land rights for the indigenous, re-verification of NRC and to refrain from proposing Bills such as CAB. If the demands are met within a week, the Manch has asserted that they would gladly reconsider their decision.
