SHILLONG, March 15:  Grade III and Grade IV adhoc and officiating employees of Public Work Department (PWD) in Khasi and Jaintia Hills will stage a sit-in demonstration on March 21 at the Additiol Secretariat parking lot to protest against the sudden termition of  their jobs and also to demand the state government to re-instate their services in the PWD.

The decision was taken today at general meeting of the All Meghalaya Officiating Employees of PWD Roads and Building Association held at the tiol Khasi Dorbar Hall. Addressing media persons, David Rapmai, general secretary of the association said, “We have decided to stage a sit-in demonstration because we have no other option and it has been more than two months that we have become unemployed.”

He further said that the members met higher authorities of the department like the Chief Engineer, Chief Secretary and Under Secretary of PWD besides the PWD Minister, Sniawbhalang Dhar to apprise them of their problem but to no avail.

“No one was able to give us any assurance but all they say is that the matter is with the state government,” he said adding that government should take this matter seriously and address to their problem.

He also said that most of the employees have been serving in the department for more than 15 years and are in no position to look for jobs elsewhere.
