SHILLONG, June 7:  Dr BDR Tiwari IAS, Secretary Planning, Government of Meghalaya stated that a huge quantum of research work in carried out in India but the quality is negligible in comparison to other countries. Addressing the iugural function of the 7 day tiol Workshop on Research Methodology held at Shillong College today, he added that most often research goes into cold storage as it is not practically viable to be implemented on field. In this context Tiwari added that the need of the hour is an action based or field based research which should be carried out in consultation with the community and which when implemented can benefit the community.

Addressing the participants who are teachers he stated that they weld a greater influence on the young learners than the family, citing cases of how children looked up to their teachers. Adding that the key point of research is to create more researchers he urged upon the teachers to create curiosity in the minds of the learners.

This he said will go a long way in widening the scope of academics in the years to come. A.S.Suting, OSD, SCSTE, in his address, shared his experiences of how research carried out without consulting the community could not be implemented successfully on ground.

He however expressed hope that in this decade of innovation which ends in 2020 more innovative action based research are carried out that will help in the building up of a strong and vibrant state.
