Question raised on new blacktopping of city roads

 Staff Correspondent

Shillong, March 31: Big questions are being raised on why new blacktopping  is being laid in Shillong when the rural areas are clamoring for repairing or laying down of bitumen roads. In Shillong, the 4 kms smooth road stretching from the Civil Hospital to Madanrting are being carpeted by new bitumen coverings. It also happens just before the end of the fincial year. The year ending leaves many officials of the PWD to restraint from talking, yet citizens of the state are pondering on the move. “Why  are they not using the money to the other rural areas that have been clamoring for a better road for a long time,” they collectively stated on condition of anonymity. Go down to the fringes of the southern slopes of East Khasi Hills, the roads are pathetic. These are the slopes that also generate the maximum revenue to the state exchequer.
