Radicals seek to expand base in Bangladesh, target Rohingyas

AGARTALA, July 18: Long stay of the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh has become a cause of concern for the host country as reportedly many international insurgent outfits are tapping them in search of a base.

What became the biggest cause of concern is that if the radicals once find their base among the Rohingyas, the spillover effect of the menace may spread to the other neighboring countries especially India.

Many international organizations including the non-government organizations (NGOs) are distributing relief among the refugees. It is apprehended that international radical organizations in the name of NGOs may infiltrate into the refugee camps and tap the youths who are in a very pitiable condition with the assurance of a brighter future.

The Home Minister of Bangladesh, Asadujjaman Kamal, also shared this concern while addressing a program at Dhaka recently. He reportedly said I am expressing such apprehension since the beginning and have said the same in the United Nations also.

“I have told the world leaders to take steps immediately or it may become a serious problem in near future,” he said, adding that the intelligence organizations are keeping close watch on them and trying our best to prevent any such eventuality.

Meanwhile, infiltration of the Rohingyas remained a major cause of concern for the security forces here as BSF and other security forces are keeping a close watch along the border. In the last two years, many Rohingyas were arrested while passing through Tripura. But many feel that it is just the tip of the iceberg as many Rohingyas have reportedly moved to different parts of the country.
