Rahul Gandhi Offers Unconditional Support on Bill For Women

The main opposition party’s president Rahul Gandhi said today that the Congress will offer “unconditional support” to the women’s reservation bill in the upcoming Monsoon session of Parliament. He said, “Our PM says he’s a crusader for women’s empowerment? Time for him to rise above party politics, walk-his-talk& have the Women’s Reservation Bill passed by Parliament. The Congress offers him its unconditional support”.

The Congress president also said he has written a letter to the Prime Minister on this issue. These comments from him came after Modi accused the Congress of being the biggest hurdle in the passage of the Triple Talaq bill and asked whether it was only a party of Muslim men, on Saturday. Modi further added that the Congress has been stocking the Triple Talaq bill in the Parliament and is not allowing discussion on the same. The Women’s Reservation Bill suggest reserving one-third of the total seats in state Assemblies and parliament for women and was passed by the Rajya Sabha during the UPA rule.

The bill is pending with the lower house. Its passage would necessitate a special two-thirds-majority as it pursues to amend the constitution. As the bill was introduced and passed in the Rajya Sabha, it has endured the expiry of the last Lok Sabha by dint of it being initiated in the permanent house of parliament. “What better way to demonstrate your commitment to the cause of women, than by offering support to the Women’s Reservation Bill,” Rahul wrote to the PM.
