Rahul Gandhi to visit Silchar

A CORRESPONDENT

SILCHAR, Feb 29: Rahul Gandhi, general secretary of INC, is expected to visit Silchar on March 4, according to a party source here. The tentatively fixed programme includes a public meeting to be addressed by him. Besides, he will also unveil the statue of Indira Gandhi in the premises of Rajiv Bhawan, the district headquarters of Congress party. He is also likely to meet the workers from all the blocks of the district. His visit, according to the source, is considered significant in view of the challenges thrown by the BJP and AIUDF, the main contenders in the elections.

Rahul Gandhi’s visit will go a long way in boosting up the party workers from the grass root level and make them prepare for the poll battle ahead. It is to be recalled that Tarun Gogoi, Chief Minister, actually sounded the poll bugle of the party in the last part of December by addressing a public meeting and a conclave of tea workers. Ghulam bi Azad, former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha, followed him who also geared up the party workers and addressed a public meeting. Rahul Gandhi’s visit will add grist and gusto to the party in need of frontline leaders to encourage and inspire the activists and workers and at the same time bolster up the organization.
