Railway passengers suffer as PRS at Lower Haflong remains closed

From a Correspondent

Haflong, September 27: Railway passengers of Dima Hasao in general and of Haflong in particular have been suffering a lot as the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) at Lower Haflong is closed since the past four days, people of Haflong alleged.

Though this PRS is closed since several days, the authority concerned is yet to inform or notify the public about the cause of closure of this only PRS of Haflong. One on-duty RPSF personnel informed that the PRS was closed since the last four days probably due to fault in the system.

The people of Haflong have been facing inconvenience for a long time as the PRS is situated 4 km from Haflong, the district headquarter. Again, the New Haflong station is also situated not less than 7 km away. The people have been requesting the Railway authority to set up a PRS or an extended ticket counter at Haflong town itself so that people can access the facility properly. If the Railway establishes the PRS at Haflong it will be more beneficial to the Railway since the network communication at New Haflong is poor, people suggested. People are of the opinion that if the Railway authority shifts the old PRS from Lower Haflong station to New Haflong station, the sufferings of the people will increase drastically.

Several NGOs and apex bodies of different communities have time and again appealed to the authority concerned to consider their demands judiciously and compensate the losses incurred by the district of Dima Hasao for the Lumding-Silchar BG conversion which comprises a major portion of Dima Hasao.
