Railway police in Uttar Pradesh beats up journalist brutally, urinates in his mouth

Guwahati: In a rather shocking incident, a journalist complains of being allegedly beaten up and ill-treated by Government Railway Police. Reportedly, the journalist was covering an accident of rail derailment that had happened in Dhimanpura, Uttar Pradesh.

The journalist, Amit Sharma works for News 24 and alleges that the GRP personnel present on the spot abused, kicked and beat him up. In addition to that, the police have snatched his camera as well.

Sharma said that when he tried telling them that he is a journalist covering the accident, they refused to listen to him and kept on beating him.

What was more shocking and inhumane of the police was that they urinated in his mouth! He said, "I was locked up, stripped and they urinated upon right into my mouth."

After learning about the incident and the journalist being rudely beaten up in the police station, several other journalists rushed to the police station. They captured video footage of cops beating up the journalist and put it on social media. Seeking an immediate relief and release of the journalist, they approached the senior officials at the police headquarters as well. Consequently, the journalist was released by the cops.

However, the video footage of journalist Amit Sharma beaten up by the cops created a much-needed ripple in the police department as the UP police took immediate action against the accused police officials.

As stated in a tweet by UP police, "DGP UP OP Singh has ordered for immediate suspension of SHO GRP Shamli Rakesh Kumar & Const. Sanjay Pawar. Strict punishment shall be accorded to policemen misbehaving with citizens."

Shamli's Senior Superintendent of Police, Ajay Kumar Pandey further adds that the senior officials are made aware of the incident and learning about something like this was "unfortunate". He also assures of strict action to be taken against the accused.
