GUWAHATI: A passenger suffering a mild heart attack on board 12363 Kolkata – Haldibari Express was saved by Railway Doctors because of presence of mind and quick action by on-board Travelling Ticket Examiner SN Majumdar. The incident came to light when another passenger in the same train, Sonali De, wrote to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Katihar Division expressing appreciation for the extraordinary help rendered by the railway staff to the ailing man.

As per a press release, she wrote – “Today while I was returning from my workplace by Haldibari Express, a beautiful thing experienced (sic) regarding passenger amenities in Railway”. An elderly gentleman indentified as N Bhadra, who was travelling with his family from Rampur Hat to New Jalpaiguri, fell ill as the train left Malda Town on May 7, 2019. The family members informed the on-duty TTE who in turn alerted the Control Office at Sealdah and Katihar. Immediately a medical team with doctors was sent to attend the passenger at next station, which was Barsoi Jn.

Appreciating the timely action by railways, Sonali De had written to DCM/Katihar - “I am overwhelmed at this kind of initiative by the Railway to save life of passengers. Since the last five years, I have travelled in long distance trains in Indian Railways, but such kind of passenger service I witnessed for the 1st time. Well done Indian Railways.”
