Railway staff awarded for devotion on duty

GUWAHATI, June 1: Four railway staffs, Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Driver, Satendra Kumar Yadav, Asst Driver, Chandan Kumar, Station Suptd and Upen Kumar Roy, Pointsman were awarded by Sanjive Roy, General Manager, NF Railway for showing exceptional devotion towards duty.

A release of the NF railway said that on April 18, at about 7.30 pm, Sanjeev Kumar Singh and Satendra Kumar Yadav while working on Train No 55725 up (from New Jalpaiguri to Alipurduar) and during passing Sevok– Bagrakot section noticed some obstruction on the railway track. They immediately stopped the train by applying emergency brake. It was found that a piece of rail lying perpendicular to the railway track. A probable mishap was thus averted due to alertness.

In recognition of their meritorious service for preventing accident both of them were awarded with a cash award of Rs 3,000 each along with a certificate by the General Manager, NF Railway.

On the other hand, on April 18 at about 1.38 pm, Chandan Kumar and Upen Kumar Roy, while watching through passing of Up goods train at Dalkhola station, noticed heavy smoke coming out from a wagon. They immediately arranged to stop the train. The train was controlled at Dalkhola station after passing the starter signal. They used fire extinguisher on wagon No-ERBCNL – 310020037364 and also called fire brigade. Thus a probable mishap was averted.
