NAHARLAGUN: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Seva Dal (APCSD) organised a tree plantation and offered floral tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to mark his 74th birth anniversary at Naharlagun Gandhi Market on Monday.

APCSD President Kipa Kaha recalled the contribution of the great leader and Bharat Ratna recipient. He also highlighted the biography of Rajiv Gandhi and stated how he became the youngest Prime Minister of the country at 40 years of age. "Rajiv Gandhi ordered elections to the Lok Sabha as soon as mourning for his slain mother was over. In that election, the Congress got a much higher proportion of votes than in the preceding seven elections and captured a record 401 seats out of 508 Lok Sabha Seats," Kaha said. The 73rd Panchayati Raj (amendment) Bill was passed in Parliament and Panchayati Raj (Local Self Government) was also initiated by Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi, he added.

The gathering observed a minute of silence in respect of the late Congress leader. The meeting was attended by the APCSD members from different parts of the State.
