Rajnath to chair 67th Plenary of NEC

Shillong, July 7: Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh will chair the 67th Plenary of North Eastern Council (NEC) on July 9 at State Convention Centre, Pinewood Hotel, Shillong. Jitendra Singh, Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and members of NEC will also attend.

In this two-day programme various presentations on issues related to all round development of north eastern region will take place.

Some of the major issues to be discussed are, ways and means of completing long-pending projects in NEC in a specific time frame, transformation of the 14 aspirational districts/ Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (GSA- 1 & 2) in NER, strengthening livelihood programmes in the region, water resources management in the northeast, catchment area treatment in through afforestation, doubling farmers’ income by 2022 in the northeast, road connectivity, ‘Poshan Abhiyan’ and ‘Ayushman Bharat’.

Security related matters pertaining to North Eastern States will also be discussed at the plenary meet.

The plenary will also discuss continuation of NEC Schemes till March, 2020 as approved by the cabinet in March 2018.
