Rally against alcohol abuse, social evils in Chirang

Bongaigaon: Thousands of women belonging to various self-help groups of Chirang district, took out a mass rally in Monglagaon area of Chirang on Sunday against alcohol.

Pramila Sarkar, president of organization of self-help groups of Dipjyoti village association, said that social crimes, especially addiction to alcohol, were on the rise in Chirang district. “A major part of society has become addicted to alcohol in our area. Families are getting affected. We are lagging behind in every sector like education and economy due to these social evils. The women must now do something to stop this. Hence, we came out on the streets today,” she said.
