Rally flays rape, molestation in State

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, April 29: The Universal Team for Social Action and Help (UTSAH), while highlighting the alarming rise of violence against women, informed that in the month of March and April alone there were more than 22 cases of rape and molestation registered across Assam. According to a UTSAH source, the districts witnessing constant rise in rape and molestation are Kamrup, Kokrajhar, Hailakandhi, Barpeta, Dhubri, Goalpara, Sibasagar, Sonitpur, Tinsukia and Majuli.

Meanwhile, reacting to the increased rate of violence against women across Assam, the senior citizens of Guwahati led by Dhirendranath Chakraborty along with other like-minded organizations also took out a silent march here today. The protesters held the view that the recent constitutional resolution of 'hang till death' to be awarded to the convicts should be imposed irrespective of minor and adult. Demanding capital punishment for the offenders of all ages, the demonstrators urged the State Government to initiate measures to do away with the social evil at the earliest besides providing justice to the victims.
