Ranji trophy: Arup, Mukhtar put Assam in driver’s seat against Tripura

GUWAHATI: Assam is in driver’s seat against Tripura in the Ranji trophy tie courtesy to two superb spells from pacers Arup Das and Mukhtar Hussain at Agartala today.

In reply to visitors first innings total 327, Tripura has bowled out 139 runs in their first innings. Arup (5-42) and Mukhtar (4-43) shared nine wickets between them. Assam was 5-0 in the second innings.

Arup and Mukhtar were in superb form today and the duo denied Tripura any chance to make come back into the game in the first innings. Arup removed opener and first down batsman in two consecutive overs and the home team was 17 on both the occasions. After the lunch break, the pacer picked up another three to complete his 11th five wickets haul in first-class cricket. Mukhtar, playing his second first-class game, bagged four wickets giving away 43 runs. It may be mentioned here that the pacer bagged five wickets in his debut game against Jharkhand recently.

Among the Batsmen of Tripura, only Pratyush Singh (47) and Nishad Kadam (28) were able to contribute some runs on the board.

Assam was 5-0 in the second innings at sumps and extended their lead to 193. Parvez is playing on 4 and Rishav on 1.

Earlier Assam, started from their overnight score 268-4, lost remaining six wickets adding only 59 runs in the morning. Riyan, who was not out 40, returned before Assam put any score on the board and thereafter the side lost wickets on regular interval. Captain Amit Sinha added another eight runs today before got out on 59. However Ranjeet Mali (22), coming into bat at number nine, contributed some runs on the board which pushed total beyond 300.
