Ranji Trophy: Assam suffer innings defeat

GUWAHATI: Assam suffered huge one innings and 43 runs defeat against Team Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy tie in Jaipur today. The visitors were bowled out 174 runs in the second innings on Saturday. The highlight of the innings was 96 runs partnership between Gokul Sharma and Kunal Saikia on the fourth-wicket.

Assam started third day’s proceeding from their overnight score 109-3 and both not out batsmen Gokul and Kunal steadily progressed the innings. But once Gokul lost the wicket on team’s total 141 the innings folded very quickly. Assam lost last seven wickets adding only 33 runs on the board.

Gokul, the top scorer in the innings, contributed 77 runs and he took 117 balls to score those runs with the help of 13 boundaries. Kunal played 131 balls to score 49 runs and there were seven hits to the fence. AV Choudhury (5-40) was the highest wicket taker for Rajasthan in the second innings.

With this victory Team Rajasthan remained top of the points table in elite group ‘C’ with 28 points from 5 games. Assam are in the fourth place with 14 points from 5 games.

In the next match Assam will face Services in Delhi and the game will begin on December 14.
