Rape, dowry cases on the rise in Assam

GUWAHATI: Despite widespread campaign against atrocities upon women and expansion of women police stations in the State, number of cases related to rape and dowry have been on the stiff rise.

According to a police report, there were 1,801 cases of rape, 9,718 cases related to dowry during 2015-16. Other hand, there were 1,571 cases of rape and 9,629 cases related to dowry during 2016-17. Moreover, there were 1,751 cases of rape while 10,860 cases related to dowry during 2017-18.
