Guwahati: State BJP President Ranjit Dass on Monday informed that as per the direction of BJP National President Amit Shah, candidature for Himanta Biswa Sarma was canceled from the list of candidates.

Speaking to the media, State BJP President, Ranjit Dass on Monday said, “Himanta Biswa Sarma is the convener of NEDA therefore, the party high-command under BJP National President Amit Shah had directed Himanta Biswa Sarma should focus on all the election campaigns and seats in the region of Northeast instead of focusing on one respective Lok Sabha constituency,” adding, “the matter is justifiable and taking these things into consideration, we have decided to remove his name from the list of candidates.”

On being asked about the resignation of MP Ram Prasad Sarma from the BJP party, Dass informed that the name of the sitting MP Ram Prasad Sarmah’s name was also submitted to the party high command in the panelist, “since he is not a member of the BJP electoral committee, therefore, he is not aware of the fact. We have submitted the names of all the deserving candidates in the panelist”.

Ranjit Dass also stated that the central BJP electoral committee has not declared the final lists of candidates for the ten constituencies officially.

Moreover, the final candidate’s list for two constituencies namely Tezpur and Nagaon have been kept pending by the BJP high command, informed Dass.

Also, blaming Congress and AIUDF, Ranjit Dass replied, "Both the parties are a different side of the same coin, they opportunist parties."

“Not a single citizens of India and Northeast are in support of Congress party, we will come back to power under the leadership of Chaukidar Narendra Bhai Modi, we are 100% confident that our alliance political parties Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) will emerge victorious in the general elections from their respective constituencies,” added Ranjit Dass.
