Real Issues Did Not Figure In Lok Sabha Polls: Tarun Gogoi

GUWAHATI: Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday expressed regret that the core and burning issues of Assam did not figure in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Tarun Gogoi said the issues of unemployment, price rise and illegal foreigners which took the centre stage during the 2014 Lok Sabha campaigning were found missing in the 2019 polls. Making an oblique reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gogoi said “he did not tell the people about steps taken to solve the burning issues of Assam during this year’s election campaign. Rather he diverted the issue.”

“He is talking about Hindu nationalism. We are also Hindu and the Congress too got Hindu votes. In constituencies like Titabor, Golaghat and many other parts of Upper Assam the Congress has strongholds and got Hindu votes,” Tarun Gogoi said.
