JORHAT: “Recruitment into underground outfits like ULFA is on the rise in Assam as well as in the north-eastern region because in the past five years, the problem of unemployment has only compounded. The Modi-led BJP government at the Centre failed to provide jobs and has also failed to put a check on illegal activities,” said former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at a press conference at Jorhat Press Club on Monday.

He added, “The youths are getting frustrated, following which enrolment into ULFA is on the rise. Both the governments at the Centre and the State closed down the income-generating paper mills in Barak Valley and Jagiroad. This government is only carrying forward the schemes which the Congress government had released.”

Along with former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi and Krishna Das, the District Congress Committee general secretary were also present on the occasion.
