LAKHIMPUR: Finally, the two years’ suffering and misery of the people of Lakhimpur came to an end with the inauguration of the repair work of Lakhimpur Kamalabari Road on Friday.

MLA of Lakhimpur LAC, Utpal Dutta laid the foundation stone of the construction work of the deplorable road. The Sentinel recently published news about the pitiable condition of the road, resulting in the department concerned expediting its activities to start the repair work of the road. The road will be repaired with a fund of Rs. 6.24 crore under SOPD covering the most dilapidated 8-km distance from Ulubari via Panigaon Chariali to Simaluguri. The MLA on the same day inaugurated the construction work of three other bridges under his constituency - Angarkhowa-Deubil Road bridge, the bridge along Gobarisali Road and Saboti-Nalkat Road bridge.

On the other hand, State P&RD minister Naba Kumar Doley and Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah laid the foundation stone of Kakoi-Rajgarh Road bridge across Kakoi River on Friday. The bridge, located in the border of Lakhimpur and Dhakuakhona LACs, will be constructed with a fund of Rs. 11.50 crore allotted under Mahaveer Lacit-Chilarai Setu Nirman Abhiyan Scheme, 2018-19 of SOPD (G). The construction of the bridge, which is the result of serial agitation programmes by the local people and various social organizations, will benefit people belonging to at least 45 villages in the area.
