Restriction on vehicle movement, parking

GUWAHATI, June 21: The movement of heavy commercial vehicles, both carrying goods and passengers, has been restricted atop Nilachal Hill and its surrounding areas in Guwahati from June 21 to 27, 2016 keeping an eye on the mammoth congregation on the occasion of the Ambubachi Mela.

The huge gathering in the city during the period is likely to threaten the safety of the general public and the devotees, who mostly walk from different areas like railway stations, bus stations, Bharalumukh, Shantipur, Maligaon etc., to the Kamakhya Temple. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Guwahati, in consultation with the local authorities having jurisdiction over it and under the powers conferred upon under Section 115 of the MV Act, 1988 and Section 93 of Assam Police Act, 2007, has temporarily restricted the movement of (a) inter-district and long-distance busses, including the busses operating under ASTC, on DG Road, MG Road and TR Phukan in Guwahati city, (b) all goods-carrying heavy and medium commercial vehicles except the vehicles allowed by the authorities from Maligaon to Bharalumukh on DG Road during the period from June 21, 2016 to June 27, 2016 to ensure safety of the general public and devotees on the roads.

A large number of devotees are likely to congregate at Nilachal Hills and surrounding areas in Guwahati on the occasion of the Ambubachi Mela with effect from June 21.

Meanwhile, a similar restriction has also been imposed on the parking of vehicles during the period.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Guwahati in consultation with the local authorities having jurisdiction over it and under the powers conferred upon him under Section 115 of the MV Act, 1988 and Section 93 of Assam Police Act, 2007, has restricted temporarily the parking of vehicles from June 21 to 27, 2016 on DG Road, from Maligaon Chariali to Bharalumukh Point, PNGB Road, from Maligaon Chariali point to Railway Station and Maligaon-Pandu Road, from Maligaon to Pandu.
