Retired teacher found killed, clue-ups galore

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 19: Sashi Bora (76), a retired teacher staying at Kanchan gar amghar Path under Noonmati police station in Guwahati, was found dead in his residence this morning. His neck bore injury marks inflicted with a sharp weapon.

Apart from Noonmati Police Station, both the CID and the Crime Branch have been investigating the case (97/17). It seems that the life of the retired teacher itself is a big clue-by-four. The investigators can knock some sense into the killing from the life of the deceased teacher.

Bora had worked as a teacher first in Jorhat Government HS School, and then posted to Golaghat Government HS School from where he superannuated in 2000. He started erecting a house at Kanchan gar in Noonmati in the city since 1998, and settled in the new house in 2001 when he divorced his wife Masi Bora, who is now staying at Pubjyoti gar in the city. Sashi and Masi have a daughter, Sumi Bora who is now studying at Delhi. Sashi Bora had a land dispute with one of his neighbours.

The death of Sashi Bora also came to the fore in an unusual way since he had been staying alone in the house, after the divorce with his wife. As usual, milkman Sitaram came to Sashi Bora’s house to supply a packet of milk. He always pushed the packet of milk inside the house through a window that remained open for the purpose. This morning, the milkman found the packet of milk which he had pushed inside the house yesterday lying there unused. He also found that the door of the house was wide open and the television set was also in full volume. Sitaram thought the retired teacher might be downed with illness, and as such he called him khura several times. When no response came from within, he had to peep through the window of the house only to discover that the retired teacher was lying on the floor.

Sitaram soon raised a hue and cry, leading the neighbours rushed to the spot. They found that the body bore injury marks on the neck inflicted with a sharp weapon.

The case has many an angle from the investigation point of view. Can the sleuths choose the right way reach the killer? The police today deployed a sniffer dog to lead them to the killer, but to no avail.
