Returning officer of Karimganj Parliamentary Seat, Phoni Bhushan Roy transferred: Reports

Guwahati: At a time when the Lok Sabha Election Phase-II is heading on its way, the Election Commission (EC) had reportedly transferred the returning officer of Karimganj parliamentary seat, Phoni Bhushan Roy for his “Non-Performance” and “Lack of Knowledge” about the constituency, claims a media report.

Phoni Bhushan Roy, who was the Deputy Commissioner of Karimganj District was later replaced by MS Manivannan, Director of the State Agriculture Department after receiving complaints against him from central observers.

As per reports, Roy was shifted amid the Phase-I general elections to Lok Sabha which was in progress in five parliamentary constituencies of Assam namely Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Kaliabor, Jorhat and Tezpur on April 11.

It may be mentioned that with the end of Lok Sabha Phase-I elections, polling percentage of Assam was recorded around 78.23% as informed by the Election Commission of India.

Karimganj is going to polls in the Phase-II along with Silchar, Autonomous District, Mangaldoi, and Nagaon on April 18, 2019.
