RGU VC calls for quality teacher education

Itagar, Feb 11: Rajiv Gandhi University Vice Chancellor, Prof. T. Mibang has urged upon all the educatiol institutions to work seriously to provide quality teacher education specifically school Internship programmes for quality education in schools. Mibang said this at the one-day workshop-cum-orientation on School Internship of B.Ed. Programme organized by the Department of Education, RGU on Friday.

Pointing out the deteriorating condition of education scerio, Vice Chancellor has requested all the teacher education institutions to take the programme seriously. He appreciated the effort of the Department of Education for successful implementation of School Internship of B.Ed. programme, first of its kind in the country, after the introduction of B. Ed two years course.

Controller of Examition, Prof. R. Tamuli, highlighted the importance of Teacher Education Programme as a professiol course. He requested all the teacher education institutes to take the Internship programme seriously for four months in addition to their theoretical two-year programmes for proper orientation and professiolization of teacher education.

Prof. K.C. Kapoor, Coorditor of the workshop, Prof. E. Hangsing, Prof. J. Sahoo, Dean of the Faculty of Education also spoke on the occasion.

In the first technical session, Prof. Kapoor deliberated at length on the modalities and procedure of implementing internship programme rigorously with proper evaluation procedures. Prof. J Sahoo highlighted the involvement and cooperation of state education department specifically Directorate of Elementary and Secondary Education for which department has already conducted one consultative meet with both the directors on Thursday.

Nine Teacher Education Institutions (B.Ed) attended the workshop.

RGU Registrar, Prof. R. Taba, a senior faculty of education, underlined the importance of the Internship Programme to have better teachers for better education. Taba also distributed certificates to all the participants in the programme.

The internship programme is a joint effort of University, Teacher Education Institutions and Directorate of School Education.
