Ri Bhoi Foundation Day celebrated

Shillong, June 5: To commemorate the 26th anniversary of Ri Bhoi Foundation Day which is observed on the 4th of June every year, the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi district organized a programme on Tuesday at the District Auditorium Hall, Nongpoh, a press release stated. Mayralborn Syiem, MLA of Nongpoh, Jason S Mawlong, MLA of Umsning, George B. Lyngdoh, MLA of Umroi, Sosthenes Sohtun, MLA of Jirang, RM Kurbah, Deputy Commissioner, S Thamar, Superintendent of Police, officers from different line departments, Syiem Raid, headmen, teachers and students from various schools and also the awardees attended the programme.

Mayralborn Syiem, MLA of Nongpoh, lauded the initiatives taken by the district administration for celebrating the Ribhoi Foundation Day. He reminded about the selflessness of the members of the Ri Bhoi Dorbar like late Fr Sylvanus Sngi Lyngdoh, DD Lapang and others for their vision, mission rendered by them who had turned out their dreams into reality.

GB Lyngdoh urged upon the gathering to commemorate this day as an awakening day for all, where the residents, the officers and MLAs of the district will look back and see what they have done and what more to be done for the district.

Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah in her speech said that it is a privilege for the people of the district to have this day as to commemorate and pay tribute to the tireless effort of the fore fathers and leaders of the district whose hardwork and dedication transformed this land into a full-fledged district of the state. She urged the young generation to follow their footsteps and dedicate themselves to bring laurels to the district, the release added.
