Robert Vadra appears before Enforcement Directorate in money laundering case

Guwahati: Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Sonia Gandhi, appeared before the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday in connection to a money laundering case related to the alleged possession of illegal foreign assets.

The Gandhi son-in-law was dropped by his wife Priyanka Gandhi outside ED’s office in Jamnagar House in central Delhi in a white Toyota Land Cruiser. She was accompanied by her convoy of vehicles and left the place immediately after dropping her husband. Vadra, immediately after reaching the office, was joined by his team of lawyers. This happens to be the first visit of Vadra in the ED office in connection to the alleged criminal charges of dubious financial dealings.

Vadra has visited the agency’s office as per the directions of a Delhi court that asked him to cooperate with the investigation. The Enforcement Directorate took up this case followed by Mr. Vadra’s appeal at the ED for anticipatory bail in this case. The court directed him to appear before the ED after returning from London and accordingly, he visited the office on Wednesday.

The allegation has been denied by Mr. Vadra in the past which was also being termed as a political witch hunt against him.

As stated by official sources, there will be questions on transactions, purchase and possession of certain immovable assets in London. The statements made by Mr. Vadra will be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

As per the allegations, Badra is alleged to have indulged in money laundering while purchasing a London-based property. The said property is located at 12, Bryanston Square and is worth £1.9 million.

Moreover, there is information on several other properties belonging to Mr. Vadra in London. In relation to this case, a raid was also carried out in December last year. Robert Vadra’s aide Manoj Arora who is an employee of a firm linked to Mr. Vadra, Skylight Hospitality LLP was also questioned by the agency in this case.
