Rocky Hek to contest as Independent Candidate in Shillong

SHILLONG: After the present unrest within the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), aspiring candidate to contest the MDC election to the KHADC from Pynthorumkhrah- Mawkhar constituency Rocky Hek on Friday has taken a decision to contest the election as an independent candidate.

It may be mentioned that Hek was previously allotted a party ticket by KHNAM under the leadership of Pyndap Siabon however now with North Shillong constituency and lone MLA of KHNAM Adelbert Nongrum as president, the party ticket has been allotted to Glenbert Khongwir.

A few days back KHNAM State Youth Wing president Thomas Passah in view of the present unrest in the party had also taken a decision to contest the MDC election from Jaiaw constituency as an independent candidate.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday, Hek said, “I did not want to contest this election as an independent candidate as I had already been allotted a party ticket earlier and now that ticket has been allotted to someone else.”

“This is not by choice that I have taken this decision but I was forced to do so because of the present situation within the party,” he said.
