Lyon, June 22: Ahead of the must-win clash against Hungary at the Euro 2016 football championship, Portugal star Cristiano Roldo threw a reporter’s microphone into a lake when asked if he was prepared for the game while out for a walk with his team-mates.
The reporter from Portuguese news channel CMTV asked the Real Madrid forward if he was ready for the tie. Roldo responded by grabbing the microphone and throwing it into the lake, Sky Sports reported on Wednesday.
Portugal are without a win at Euro 2016 and could face elimition if they do not beat Hungary in their third and last match in Group F.
It has been a frustrating tourment for Roldo, who has failed to score from 20 shots. He criticised Iceland for having a “small-time mentality” after a 1-1 draw and then missed a pelty in the goalless stalemate with Austria.
Portugal head coach Ferndo Santos revealed the pelty miss had been playing on Roldo’s mind.
“Cristiano hasn’t been able to sleep. On Sunday, I was one of the first up and he was already awake. He’s a winner and his experience will help him bounce back,” Santos said.
“If there is a pelty in the next game, Cristiano Roldo will take it and he will score.” (IANS)
