‘Role of CBI, ED in Louis Berger scam probe doubtful’

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, June 26: Leveling a serious allegation against the CBI and ED, the convener of Swaraj Asom, Bhaben Handique said that the role of these two investigative agencies is quite doubtful particularly in relation to the Louis Berger corruption case. Addressing the reporters in Guwahati on Tuesday, Handique said, “CBI’s progress in the investigation of the Louis Berger corruption case has been limited to the gathering of statements from the petitioners over the last ten months.” Arguing that while the ED could seize the properties of the Louis Berger scam accused in Goa and went far ahead in the probe, “Why there is unprecedented delay in Assam?”, Handique asked. He further said, “ED is demonstrating a partiality in the case of Assam.”

Revealing that the Swaraj Asom has recently received input documents from the US Department of Justice/FBI in relation to the case, Handique informed the reporters that he has accordingly forwarded all the documents to the CBI following which officials of the investigate agency is suppose to visit the state soon.
