HOWRAGHAT, April 24: Khonsing Rongpi, the EM for Health and Family Welfare Department, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), is the first Executive Member of KAAC who appealed to Bodo people to use their language in the government offices. While attending as chief guest in a free bicycle distribution programme at Amoni Gaon Bodo Medium High School near Howraghat town, Rongpi said that mother tongue was the best way of learning.  The first language of a child is part of his personal, social and cultural identity. Another impact of the first language is that it brings about the reflection and learning of successful social patterns of acting and speaking, Rongpi said.

He said the government was giving more importance to improvement of recognized languages. He further said that the Bodo language had been recognized as associate official language of Assam. Hence, Bodo people could use their language in offices. “We are ready to take support to understand though we cannot understand and speak Boro language completely,” Rongpi said.

Taking part in the bicycle distribution meeting, Rongpi handed over free cycles to girl students under the Chief Minister’s Special Scheme here on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, Rongpi said that free cycles were being given to BPL girl students so that they need not depend on any other mode of transportation to travel to school and back home.

He said that State government had allocated crores of rupees to the Education Department for better infrastructure in schools and to encourage students. Free notebooks, uniforms, laptops, tablets and scootys were being given to students. He also urged the students to work hard to achieve their goals and lead a disciplined life.
