‘Rs 18,000 Should Be The Minimum Wage of Workers’ Says CITU

GUWAHATI: With the ongoing session of Assam Legislative Assembly, various organizations staged a dharna at Dispur Last Gate on Monday. Addressing their grievances, the organizations sought to seek the attention of the government.

The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) mentioned six of their demands which included disseverment of oil field and airport privatization, a resolution by the Assam Legislative Assembly to ensure de-privatization along with release of arrear wages of the Paper Mill’s employees. The Union demanded that Rs 18 thousand be the minimum wage of workers along with the acceptance of the proposed minimum wage of tea workers, among other demands.

The Mising and Tiwa National Organization opined that the Assam Government had earlier asserted that the Mising Autonomous Council (MAC), Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) and Tiwa Autonomous Council (LAC) would be included under the sixth schedule. The government has, however, not taken any decision upon it and the organization demanded that the same is seen through.

All Rabha Students’ Union on behalf of six organizations of the Rabha community namely All Rabha Students’ Union (ARSU), All Rabha Women Council (ARWC), Sixth Schedule Demand Committee (SSDC), All Rabha Kristi Sangha (SRKS), All Rabha National Council (ARNC) and Bebak Rabha Krourang Runchum (BRKR), demanded the inclusion of RHAC into the sixth schedule. They also demanded that the Forest Right Act 2006 be implemented, appointment of Rabha Language Teacher at Primary Schools, implementation of new language formula at the earliest, among others.
