Rs 74.28 Per Litre : Fuel Prices Reach Sky High in Tripura

Tripura is suffering from ‘Bure Din’ these days as the fuel prices in the state have gone sky high. The current petrol price in the Agartala is 74.28 per litre and the fuel prices in the state are fluctuating frequently since August 10.

The second hike in tax of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) has led to the fluctuating rates in the fuel prices. The CNG price was earlier Rs.41 per kg and has now reached Rs.44 kg. In case of the PNG as well, the state witnesses a hike of Rs.2.50 as it raised from Rs.17.5 to 19. Moreover, the limited number of fuel stations in the capital city has also become a reason for harassment of the citizens as the vehicles are made to wait in long queues for filling up their fuel tanks.

Contrary to the hike in fuel prices, the remunerations of the employees are the same yet unlike what was being promised by BJP. The political party’s assurance of bringing ‘Achche din’ into the lives of the people of the country does not seem to be working much in Tripura.

The revenue collected due to the hiked tax on the fuels, however, will be used in road repairing in Tripura. Taxes collected from the common masses of the country to repair the roads are, however, something not acceptable, especially when the general public is made to suffer from so much harassment.

Speaking in the context of the price hike of the fuels, Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath said, “There are 3000 buses in Tripura, autos 34,000, E-rickshaw’s number is 8,300. Trucks including small and big are 28,000, cars 40,000, two-wheelers above 3 lakhs. Around 4 lakhs of vehicles are running over the state’s pathetic road’s. The roadway’s condition is bad leading massive damages to the vehicles. People are suffering. The vehicles are losing their lasting quality. Transport movement is becoming tough. Delivery is getting delayed.”

The opposition parties in the state, CPI-M and Congress have slammed the BJP government for the hiking taxes on fuel.
