Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad Seeks Relaxation on Move to Check Social Media

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) on Thursday sought certain “basic” relaxations in the social media policy sought to be implemented by the State government. SAKP president Bashab Chandra Kalita said that “just as employees having voting rights, they should also be granted the opportunity to offer their comments on political and social issues.”

Kalita however, added that “the employees concerned must not use undemocratic language while uploading their comments. They should also be careful that their comments do not go against the sovereignty of the nation. Moreover, their comments must also not go against the government.”

Referring to the Assam Civil Service (Conduct) Rules 1965, Kalita said that as per the rules no government employee can offer any comments or reveal any official secrets, he pointed out.

The State government had recently sought opinions on its move to regulate social media for its employees. It had given September 15 as the deadline for the submission of the comments from the employees.
