SAI-Kokrajhar students elated for  archer Pramila Daimary ’s triumph in Asian Games

KOKRAJHAR: The students of Sports Authority of India (SAI) Special Area Games Centre, Kanthalguri, Kokrajhar today gathered at the SAI complex in the morning and expressed their best wishes for Pramila Daimary's triumph in the Asian Games to be held from August 18 to September 2 at Jakarta in Indonesia. The elated students chanted slogan for Daimary for achieving gold medal in the games.

The BTC EM of Sports and Youth Welfare, Doneswar Goyary also joined the SAI students and hoped that Daimary will clinch gold in the Asian Games at Jakarta. He said the BTC Sports department had been giving all privileges for the players and achievers in the national and international arena and the council pays respect that bring laurels for the council, state as well as for the nation. He said his department was extending support to all sports achievers and Pramila Daimary was also given the same support.

Goyary said there had been some allegations that the council often failed to provide due attention and facilities to the international achievers, but this is completely false and baseless. He said the BTC has been looking after the welfare of sporting talents in every field, taking up improvement of infrastructures. He also said the council used to felicitate the international achievers of boxing, archery, taekwondo, football or other disciplines during the celebration of Bodoland Day on 10 February every year. He also said there was neither discrimination nor ignoring of their achievement in the council but it has been giving equal importance for the development of sports.

The Director (I/C) of Kokrajhar SAI Pradip Brahma said as many as six players from Assam have been selected for Asian Games at Jakarta in Indonesia in different events. They are Pramila Daimary (Archer), Hima Das (Athletic), Shiva Thapa (Boxing), Rodali Baruah (Taekwondo), Wasmita Chaliha (Badminton) and Kabita Debi (Taekwondo). He said the players will leave for Indonesia today to participate the Asian games.

Hailing from remote village of Udalguri district, the poor parents of Pramila Daimary used to sell vegetable as livelihood. But despite financial hurdles, Daimary has been achieving in her carrier and becomes one of the top ranking archers of the world. People of the region expect to bring laurel to the people of the country by clinching gold in the Asian games.

On the occasion, a tree plantation programme was also held in the SAI complex. EM Doneswar Goyary started the plantation of sapling where Director (I/C) Pradip Brahma and other coaches also took part.
