Itanagar, June 19: The Sainik School at Pasighat in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh is all set to start function from August with commencement of courses from August 27 this year.

Principal of Sainik School at Goalpara in Assam, Captain Edwin Jothirajan has been deputed by the Sainik School Society of the Ministry of Defence to conduct entrance examination to select the first batch of 60 students for the school, official sources informed here today.

The proposal for establishment of Pasighat Sainik School – along with two others, one each in Tawang and Tirap-Changlang-Longding (TCL) region – got in-principle approval from Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during her visit to Itanagar in November last year.

Captain Jothirajan called on the state Governor Brig (Retd) BD Mishra (Retd) at Raj Bhavan here Monday evening and discussed all the issues regarding the school.

The Governor, who had visited the school site at Niglok near Pasighat in East Siang district last month, directed the Deputy Commissioner of the district to render all assistance to Captain Jorthirajan to start the school on due date.

The Governor also requested Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein to enable the transfer of the 100 acres of land, the site of the school from Department of Industry to the Department of Education at the earliest.

The chief minister is expected to hold a meeting with all the stakeholders in the matter on June 20 to get the land transfer and the mutation for the purpose done.

The Governor also discussed the matter with the Chief Secretary Satya Gopal and asked him to pass directions to all the 22 deputy commissioners including Capital Complex to inform all school children through the Deputy Directors of School Education (DDSEs) in the districts and headmasters of the schools to motivate maximum numbers of students fill up the form and appear for first ever entrance examination in Arunachal Pradesh for Sainik School.

With July 13 being the last date for receipt of applications, prospectus and admission form will be available online as also in the centers (to be selected by the state government) from June 25 to July 10. The entrance examination would be conducted on July 22 (Sunday) at the centers which are yet to be announced by the state government, the sources said.

Merit list for interview and medical examination would be published on July 28 while interview and medical examination would be conducted from August 1 to 4 next and the final merit list including waiting list would be published on August 7.

Issue of call letters for selected candidates would commence from August 8 and admissions would take place from August 13 to 16, the sources added.
