Salary woes hit employees in Tripura

Agartala: Non-payment of salary to a good number of government employees has raised concerns on the financial condition of the State. Official sources refused to give much importance to it saying that these may be due to some kind of negligence or dislocation but many others says it is a sign of fund crunch.

According to reports, a section of employees of the Ampinagar block in Gomati district is yet to receive their February salary while the Sarba Siksha Abhijan (SSA) teachers of Dhalai district are facing the same condition. People posted in interior areas are the worst sufferers.

About 30 employees of the Ampinagar block is running pillar to post to know the reasons for non-payment only to return empty handed and clueless.

Block Development Officer, MK Chakma admitted that a problem is there but could not give any specifics. The report from Ambassa said all the SSA teachers working in Dhalai district are yet to receive their salary and there is no assurance of when it will be paid. When enquired by journalists, District Education Officer, Rabindra Durai admitted about the crisis but could not give any assurance about when the salary will be paid.

Similar is the condition of the people working under MGNREGA projects in different parts of the State. Despite completing all formalities, they are not getting their wages. Incident of demonstrations also have been reported from different places over non-payment of MGNREGA wages.
