Dibrugarh, April 12: Following a controversial incident where the president of the Chabua Town Committee has been accused of leasing out a plot of tea land under periodic patta to a third party without obtaining the necessary permission, the members of the Dibrugarh District Committee of the Sadou Asom Matak Mahila Parishad (SAMMP) submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.

The members of SAMMP said that the president of Chabua Town Committee had given out the periodic patta plot of Chabua Tea Estate, located between Chabua Crematorium and the Chabua office of Assam State Electricity Board, to a private oil company med Shell. Moreover, the attempt to set up a petrol pump along the tiol Highway without the permission of the authority concerned has also raised many eyebrows, the members asserted. In a statement released by SAMMP, its members have also brought to notice a government mandate which restricted the transfer of a periodic tea plot to anyone without taking prior permission from the government. In the said memorandum submitted by the members of SAMMP, an appeal was made to render the transfer of the said plot null and void.
