Sankardev's 570th Birth Anniversary; Rich Sattriya Culture Showcased in Cultural Procession at Batadrava in Nagaon

Nagaon: The 15th Century Saint, Scholar, Socio-Cultural reformer, Playwright and the founder of 'Bhakti Movement', Srimanta Sankardev's 570th birth anniversary are being celebrated at Batadrava of Nagaon, the birthplace of the great Vaishnavite saint with pomp and gaiety.

Today, during the Second day of the three-day-long celebration started with common Pransangs. From morning onwards, Devotees and visitors from across the state have thronged at Batadrava than, offer prayers and taking part in the Celebration.

The devotees recall Sankarguru by resounding Guru Vandana- Hari Nam. Today, at around 11 am, a Colourful Cultural procession was taken out Showcasing rich Sattriya Cultures- Creations of Sankardev enthralled the residents of greater Batadrava region. The procession was formally flagged off by Bhogeswar Borah, executive president of Batadrava than reception committee.

In the evening, total 570 earthen lamps were lit. A Bhaona 'Nrisingha yatra' was also performed by the artists of Salaguri Satra, Batadrava.

On 20 September, after the morning prayers, a religious meeting will be held under the Presidentship of Devananda Devgoswami. The meeting will be graced by State Water resources minister Keshab Mahanta, State BJP president Ranjit Das, Owner of Satellite Channel 'Prag News', Sanjiv Narayan, Legislators Angoorlata Deka, Dimbeswar Das, and Rupak Sharma and other dignitaries.

In the evening Various Sattriya cultural programmes along with two Ankiya Bhaonas namely 'Seeta Haran' and 'Bali Badh' will be staged.
