Santu lifts Newatia Chess title

GUWAHATI, June 20: Santu Mandal of Income Tax Department clinched the 6th Jugal Kishore Newatia Memorial Intertiol Open Fide Rating Chess Tourment title. On way to lift the title he collected 8.5 points from 10 rounds and pocketed Rupees 70,000 as a cash award. Intertiol Master Arghyadip Das of West Bengal also scored 8.5 points from same number of round but was declared second on the basis of tiebreak score. He collected a purse of Rs 40,000. Apart from position holders there are few other prizes also. Chingkhei Singh scored 7.5 points and judged best players from Assam while Cheniram Pegu got second position (7 points) and Soram Rahul Singh (6.5 points) got third position. Th. Bipin Singha (7 points) was adjudged best player from Guwahati while Prab Kumar th (6.5 points) got second position. Altogether 195 players from all over India and Nepal participated in the tourment.
